Live from New Mexico

Here I am sitting at the Flying Star restaurant. It has become our favorite place to eat, this is the 2nd night in a row that we are here. The picture here is from Santa Fe, a nice place called Cafe Pasqual and I would eat there everyday if I could afford it. Everything on the menu is good.

    Quizno the devil incarnate

2 days ago Andrew twisted my arm and brought me the Fat and Carb sandwich from Quizno, aka Chicken Carbonara on brown. I could not finish even half for lunch and ate the rest for dinner. That is some load of fat and more fat.

The strange thing is Quizno is not strong on condiments like Subway. I tried to ask for lettuce and tomato for it and the cashier gave me a dirty look like I was trying to rip them off out vegetables. She said, "it doesn't come with anything".

Quizno is now my new KFC. I will only eat it once a year and when I do, I will remember why I only eat it once a year.

    Recent meals

#97 at Bejing Noodles on Peel (Shrimp with lobster sauce on steamed rice) - The cashier knows me well now so I think she slips some extra words to the cook during the order because I can never finish it in one sitting. You can't go wrong with this dish.

Pork loin chops at home - Pan fried and simply dressed with garlic, salt and pepper. I had this with some avocado and watermelon. This cost me $4 - 1$ for the avocado alone.

"Mexican" at the IBM food court - I always thought that when people referred to this place as the IBM cafeteria it would be like the one we had at SGI. It's just another food court with pseudo-ethnic food. My favorite food court is still the one below Paramount movie theatre aka Scotia Bank theatre.

    Eating with a budget

When I was unemployed, my food budget was $2 per meal which basically means home cooked meals. Now that I am gainfully employed, I still try to spend less money on daily meals so I can treat myself to Brasserie Brunoise more often.

It's hard to setup an eating schedule because humans are moody and moods change. Burger King has a daily special where a big sandwich' price drops to $1.89 on each day so I was planning the following dinner plan:

    Monday: BK chicken sandwich
    Tuesday: home cooked
Wednesday: something in a food court
    Thursday: home cooked
    Friday: BK fish sandwich
Saturday and Sunday: nosh on cheap junk food all day long

It is actually at lunch that I eat my most nutritious and solid meal so I can survive the day. I am limited however the food choices around work and it's usually a $8 commitment. Sometimes I bring in lunches which would cost me $4 to prepare but I'm lazy so...

    More on this topic later.

    Le Commensal (for Donald)

I went, I saw and I conquered the dessert table.
    Not.

I had a $12 plate (by weight) which is a lot of food. I always get their guacamole, chickpea, garlicky spaghetti, and a chunk of feta. I think Le Commensal is expensive compared to let's say Burger King but it's better for you and good once in awhile.

If I was rich I might eat there once a week.

    Co-opted!

Phil co-opts Andrew cos they have a flight sim night or something boring like that. I will go for Le Commensal for a light dinner.

    Andrew's Dilemma

So my coworker has just moved from Toronto and he hasn't got his stuff together in the new place yet and he's basically eating out everyday. It costs him a small fortune and he only eats the bad stuff like Pizza, medium-of-the-road sushi, pub food, and Quizno.

I try to make him eat the better stuff like Brasserie Brunoise, Cocorico or Fung Shing. In fact we'll try Brasserie Brunoise tonight.

He lives in NDG and is stymied by the expensive offerings on Monkland so if anyone knows where he can go to get a decent meal at a decent price, please advise.
